1. My boat is a mess from stem to stern. What do you recommend I start out with?

If your boat is a mess, the first step would be to wash the boat. Removing all dust and grit is essential so you start with a clean surface and prevent further scratching. We recommend Nautical Ease Spray Cleaner for this. If your boat is heavily oxidized, this cleaner will also remove some of the oxidation.

If it is oxidized or chalky white the next step is to use Nautical Ease Fiberglass Cleaner which will remove the oxidation and then you are ready to apply the protective finish . We recommend using Nautical Ease Ultimate Marine Finish which is our polish. We recommend this polish because it is not a wax based product and has a longer life and is easy to use.

2. What's the best type of cloth to use when applying Nautical Ease products?

For applying Nautical Ease polish use a cloth that has some texture to it such as a clean untreated shop cloth or a wash cloth type material as opposed to a tee shirt or a diaper material. The textured cloth will help clean much better as it gets into the pores and doesn't just skim over the surface. And no, it won't scratch when used with the Nautical Ease polish either on a boat or a car.

3. How often should I apply the Ultimate Marine Polish? Is there a maintenance system I should follow on a regular basis?

There are a number of variables in answering this question. Is your boat in a marina slip? Trailered? Stored inside or out? What part of the country? How long is your boating season? Most boaters apply at least a couple of applications of finish at the beginning of the season. If you trailer your boat and store it inside or outside and it is covered completely, a couple of coats are all you would need for the season.

If the boat is stored outside uncovered or partially covered an additional application per month may be needed to give it maximum protection from the sun.

In the extreme south where it is hot and the boat is used all year long, it will be necessary to polish it more often to give it the protection that it needs. Sun and heat are the culprits when it comes to damage to gel coat and the life of the finish. Then again, how particular are you about how your boat looks. Some never polish and some never stop polishing. If your boat is white but has colored stripes, put a couple extra coats on the stripes to protect them.

4. I bought a boat so that I could spend time with my family and friends rather than scrubbing the deck every weekend. Are your products really as easy to use as you say they are?

Our products are that easy. There are none easier. Nautical Ease Spray Cleaner and Nautical Ease Deck Cleaner actually dissolve dirt before your eyes so you don't have to scrub and scrub the decks or the sides of your boat. Just going over it and really scrubbing it are two different things. Same thing with our polish. Much easier to apply and buff off than other polishes. You can put it on and take it off in less time than with most other products.

5. My friends are constantly leaving black streak marks on my deck. Aside from throwing their street shoes overboard, what do you recommend I do to eliminate these scuffs?

To eliminate black scuff marks, use Nautical Ease Deck Cleaner or Nautical Ease Spray Cleaner - takes them right off. We get a number of calls from boaters every year telling us how they got the scuff marks off with our products when others failed.

6. How should I store Nautical Ease products aboard my boat? Are they flammable or caustic?

Most all Nautical Ease products can be safely stored on your boat. None are flammable. Our boat bottom cleaner, teak cleaner, and aluminum cleaners are acid based and considered caustic. They aren't the type of products that would usually be stored on board anyway but if you do, precautions should be used. Another thing, don''t keep the Nautical Ease Inflatable Finish or the Nautical Ease Polish on board your boat in the winter if you are in the northern states where it might freeze.

7. I've been searching high and low for a way to eliminate scratches on my yacht. What should I do?

Depends on how deep the scratches. On deep scratches, a matching color fiberglass filler will have to be used. You can't sand away scratches in fiberglass like you can on wood without ruining your finish. Fine scratches, especially from compounding with a wheel, can be filled in by using multiple coats of Nautical Ease Ultimate Marine Polish.

8. My teak looks washed out and gray. Any suggestions?

Easy problem to solve. the sun and heat has turned the oil in the wood gray or oxidized looking. Nautical Ease Teak Cleaner will clean the dirt out, eliminate the gray and leave the teak wood looking like new wood. Then apply either Nautical Ease Teak Oil or the finish of your choice.

9. Are Nautical Ease products biodegradable?

Most of the Nautical Ease products are biodegradable and are labeled as such. We not only try to make the quality of the products as good as possible but also as environmentally friendly as possible.

10. How much coverage can I get from a can of Nautical Ease Ultimate Polish? I have a 23 foot boat.

A pint can of Nautical Ease Polish will do a 20 foot boat hull from the rub rail to the waterline approximately 5 times, a 23 foot boat 3 - 4 times, a 38-40 ft. hull twice. Believe it or not, it goes twice as far as most other products.

11. How can I clean my inflatable?

We make a cleaner, Nautical Ease Inflatable Cleaner that works great and won't affect the PVC or hypalon material. After you have it cleaned, apply a couple coats of the Nautical Ease Inflatable Finish which contains no silicones or petroleum distillates which are two things you never want to put on an inflatable boat.

12. How can I get spider droppings off my fiberglass? Nothing seems to take them off.

Spray them with Nautical Ease Spray Boat Cleaner and they will start to dissolve before your eyes.
